Armed robber locks up employees
•LAWRENCEVILLE - Employees of the Philly Connection at 2855 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road were forced into the store freezer by two men who robbed the store Thursday night.
According to a police report, two armed black men entered the store demanding money then forced the employees into the freezer at the back of the store after taking about $600 from the register.
A former employee arrived at the store during the time of the robbery and was taken to a back room in the store. The former employee was able to free the employees from the freezer.
Employees were in the freezer for about 10 minutes and were not injured.
Man fills shopping cart, then flees
•NORCROSS - The Norcross Walgreens at 5296 Jimmy Carter Blvd. was hit by a shoplifter Sunday.
A black man entered the drug store about 1 a.m., filled a shopping cart with merchandise and ran out of the store without paying for the items, according to a police report.
The man fled in a silver Dodge Intrepid but left the cart in the parking lot.
Employees said they recognized the man from a similar theft at the store a week ago. They said he took a number of items in the previous burglary.
Fire destroys storage building
•WINDER - Fire destroyed a storage building at 2040 Highway 82 and three adjoining acres at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The 10-foot-by-10-foot storage building housed a motorcycle and some lawn maintenance equipment. A nearby storage building suffered fire damage, too. Officials believe the blaze began from an unattended construction burn, Lt. Scott Dakin of Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services said.
Georgia Forestry professionals were called to the scene to establish a fire break. Although the fire was under control within 15 minutes, workers with the two departments remained on the scene for several hours hitting hot spots.
Sewer crew strikes gas line
•BUFORD - Gwinnett County firefighters closed Ga. Highway 124 just before 6 p.m. Monday when a construction crew hit a gas main while digging a sewer line.
The road was closed between Rock Quarry Road and Pine Road. No one was evacuated. Buford Gas Department workers labored to repair the leak.
Boy shows gun to stop argument
•WINDER - A 16-year-old boy reportedly settled an argument with his father by showing him a gun.
Police reports state the boy argued with his mother Monday about cleaning his room. When the father intervened, the boy reportedly pulled up his shirt, showing a gun in his waistband, and said, "You don't want none of this."
The boy left and Winder police officers found him walking along the road. The boy ran, but officers caught him and took him to the Winder Police Department. Police released the boy into his father's custody and set a juvenile court date.
