SUWANEE - Kevin McOmber designed Suwanee's Town Center, and now he wants a seat in the council chambers that will soon be built there.

McOmber, a civil engineer who has lived in the city 12 years, announced an intention to run in an upcoming special election.

The special election, which has not yet been scheduled, is to replace Alan Landers, who resigned last week due to an impending marriage and move out of the city.

McOmber, a member of the Gwinnett Water and Sewerage Authority, is manager of Clark Patterson Associates, a local design firm. He acted as project manager for the Suwanee Town Center.

"In my 20 years of experience working with small government, the Town Center was by far the most enjoyable project I have had the pleasure of working on," he said. "I look forward to spending time with the same team at the city, in a different capacity, to see other great things happen in our community."

McOmber is a founding member of the Suwanee Downtown Development authority, vice president of his homeowners' association and a member of the Gwinnett County Planning Advisory Committee, which is working on the county's 2030 comprehensive plan.

He has endorsements from Landers and Mayor Nick Masino.

"When I moved to Suwanee 12 years ago, Kevin was my next- door neighbor as well as the very first person I met here in Suwanee," Landers said. "Kevin and I worked together on some community activist issues and later worked together toward the implementation of the Suwanee Town Center Park. I have all the confidence in Kevin's ability to lead the city as a councilmember and with great pleasure endorse his candidacy."

McOmber said he's also glad to have support from his wife MaLisa, and their two children Marissa and Andrew.
