Youth roundup: Williams wins gold at national championship

Sydney Williams won two gold medals at the AAU Southern Indoor National Championships at the University of Tennessee on Feb. 23-25.

Williams, an eighth-grader at Sweetwater Middle School, won the 1500m with a time of 5:13 and the 3000m with a mark of 11:36. Williams also placed sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:32.71.

BASKETBALL

Shiloh boys win GBL championship

The Shiloh fifth-grade boys basketball team defeated Parkview to win the Gwinnett Basketball League championship Feb. 11 at Suwanee Sports Academy.

Shiloh finished the season 13-1.

Team members are Nicholas Alexander, Cameron Benton, Jonathan Biggs, Justin Chance, Jordan Chance, Joshua Culver, Jonathan Davis, Demonte Honeycutt, Gabriel Lloyd, Anthony Odom, Elliott Strickland and Donovan Sylve.

The team is coached by Carlton Davis and Desmond Johnson.

WRESTLING

Collins Hill qualifies 30 for state tournament

The Collins Hill wrestling program had 30 youth wrestlers, from ages 5 to 14, qualify for the Little Kids and Big Kids State Tournament.

The Eagles had 13 champions, five runner-ups, 10 third-place finishers and two fourth-place finishers.

Taking first place were Allison Flatt, Harrison Spikes, Ian Statia, Ian Jenkins, Adam Flatt, Will Adams, Jeffrey Moulder, Eric Ryll, Andrew Krawuski, Anderson Palm, Bazell Partridge, Joseph Doyague and John Mudd

Runner-ups were Miranda Statia, Jake Adams, Jonathan Gilbert, Tyler Kalgren and Thomas Adams.

Garrett Spikes, Cody Hutchison, Amanda Flatt, Collyn Birbeck, Ezra Connell, Brandon Bullock, Jared Hemmings, Michael Spikes, Chris Snyder and Evan Hill all placed third.

Anthony Thomas and Max Cohen finished fourth.

SWIMMING

Swim Atlanta shines at meet

Swim Atlanta had an outstanding weekend at the 14-and-under Short Course Championship meet in Savannah. Swim Atlanta won the meet, beating Dynamo Swim Club 4755.5-3057.5

The following swimmers placed in the top three in their event.

In the 13 to 14 year old division, Meghan Faulkner (second in 400 IM, third in 200 IM), Carissa Brozino (third 400 IM), Wesley Pate (third 200 IM), Bryce Bevier (third in 200 breast and 100 breast), Caroline Kenney (second in 50 free and 100 back, third in 200 back and 100 free), Connor Mason (first in 50 free, second in 100 back and 100 free), Rachael Dudley (first in 200 fly, second in 100 fly), Sommers Creed (first in 1000 free, second in 200 free and 500 free), Hailey White (first in 200 free and 500 free, second in 1000 free), Collin Greene (second in 1000 free).

In the 11 to 12-year-old division Samuel Burstein (first in 50 fly, second in 50 free), Allison Carr (first in 50 breast, 200 breast and 100 breast and third in 100 IM), Bradley Taratino (first in 50 free and 100 free, second in 200 free and 100 back and third in 50 fly and 50 back), Anthony McMurry (second in 200 back and 500 free, third in 100 back), Frederique Lefebvre (third in 400 IM and 500 free).

In the 10-and-under division Alexi Smith (first in 100 free, 50 breast, 50 free and 100 IM, second in 200 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 50 fly and 100 breast), Jonah Beri (first in 100 free, 50 back, 100 back and 50 free, second in 200 IM, 100 fly and 100 IM), Noah Schaich (first in 50 breast, second in 100 back and 100 breast and third in 200 IM, 100 fly and 100 IM), Phillip Utesch (third in 50 breast and 100 breast), Katherine Weeks (third in 50 back and 200 free).

Swim Atlanta also won six out of a possible 10 relays.

In the girls relays, Caroline Kenney, Sommers Creed, Katie Lohr and Hailey White won the 14-and-under 800 free. Lilly Nunnally, Allison Carr, Frederique Lefebvre and Mariam Soufi placed third in the 12-and-under 200 medley. Caroline Kenney, Meghan Faulkner, Rachael Dudley and Madison Peters placed second in the 14-and-under 200 medley. Caroline Kenney, Meghan Faulkner, Rachael Dudley and Hailey White placed third in the 14-and-under 400 medley. Chandler Ryberg, Allison Carr, Frederique Lefebvre and Mariam Soufi placed second in the 12-and-under 400 medley. Caroline Kenney, Katie Lohr, Meghan Faulkner and Hailey White won the 14-and-under 400 free.

In the boys relays, Wesley Pate, Collin Greene, Andrew Leach and Luke Upchurch placed second in the 14-and-under 800 free. Sidharth Akkineni, Daniel Bridgers, Samuel Burstein and Bradley Taratino won the 12-and-under 200 medley. Wesley Pate, Kevin Chaksuvej, Luke Upchurch and Connor Mason placed second in the 14-and-under 200 medley. Wesley Pate, Kevin Chaksuvej, Collin Greene and Connor Mason placed second int he 400 medley. Anthony McMurry, Daniel Bridgers, Samuel Burstein and Bradley Taratino won the 12-and-under 400 medley. Samuel Burstein, Daniel Bridgers, Anthony McMurry and Bradley Taratino won the 12-and-under 400 free. Luke Upchurch, Connor Mason, Wesley Pate and Andrew Leach won the 14-and-under 400 free.
