MILLEDGEVILLE - A former municipal court judge was sentenced to 25 years in prison Friday night after a jury found him guilty of child molestation and statutory rape.
Jon Philip Carr, 53, of Milledgeville was found guilty on four of five counts of child molestation and two of three counts of statutory rape. He was also sentenced to 15 years of probation and will have to register as a sex offender. The jury took about seven hours to reach its verdict after attorneys finished their closing arguments Friday morning. The trial began on Feb. 19. Carr was accused of ''indecent'' sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl in his Milledgeville law office. He was a municipal court judge in Ivey, McIntyre and Irwinton and a solicitor for Milledgeville Municipal Court before resigning following his June 25, 2006 arrest. Michelle Elizabeth Bridges, 21, pleaded guilty Feb. 5 to five charges, including pimping and child molestation, in connection with the case. She was sentenced to two years in prison and eight on probation. ---More like this story
