SUWANEE - In less than a week, local police responded to a bank robbery, identified a suspect, secured a warrant and arrested a man in connection to the robbery.
Gwinnett County and Suwanee Police on Friday arrested David Yong Yi, 36, of Suwanee, in connection with the Monday robbery of the BB&T bank at 2885 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, Suwanee Police Department Spokesman Capt. Clyde Byers said. Byers said an officer on patrol noticed Yi's Honda Accord parked at the Country Inn and Suites on Jimmy Carter Boulevard on Friday morning and found Yi inside one of the rooms shortly before 5 a.m. Yi is accused of going into the bank between noon and 1 p.m. Monday with a note, demanding money from a bank teller, according to an arrest warrant. He was not armed, but a teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money, Byers said. Byers said officers and FBI agents showed up at Yi's parents home on Lake Edge Drive in Suwanee on Tuesday. "We showed up just in case he happened to be there," Byers said of going to the Yi's home. "But mama and daddy were the only ones there. After the robbery, we did develop a suspect, and that was the purpose of being at that home." Byers said Yi may be a suspect in other robberies in the county, but he was unsure. According to jail records, Yi remains as the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.More like this story
