DULUTH - One man is dead and another injured following a 3:20 a.m. double shooting at the IHOP at 2178 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth on Friday.
Ray Anthony Knowlin, 32, of College Park, is expected to survive his gunshot wounds. Gwinnett County police had not released the name or age of the deceased at press time. He is described as an adult black man.
When police arrived at the IHOP, they found two black men suffering from gunshot wounds. The men were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in critical condition. One man later died.
The shooting took place near the front door, although no information was available as to whether the shooting took place inside or outside the restaurant. The IHOP is located in the Gwinnett Station shopping center, a strip center where about half the store units stand empty. The IHOP is a franchise store, open 24 hours, and it will probably continue to keep that schedule, Kevin Carson, IHOP's franchise business consultant said.
Carson said he believed the shooting took place outside. The men were neither customers nor employees, Carson said.
The IHOP closed following the shooting and reopened before noon Friday, Carson said. He did not notice if the store was more or less busy than an average Friday.
Gwinnett Police did not confirm by press time information as to what caused the shooting, if the men shot one another or were shot by a third party, if the men knew each other or why Knowlin was at the IHOP in Duluth at 3 a.m.
No one was in custody at press time.
