LAWRENCEVILLE - A grand jury indicted Wednesday a 17-year-old on charges related to the rape of a 15-year-old girl.Darrian Dewayne Bryant of Stone Mountain has been charged with one count of rape, two counts of kidnapping with bodily injury, nine counts of aggravated assault, 17 counts of burglary, one count of selling marijuana and one count of carrying a weapon on school property, according the indictment released Thursday.

SUWANEE - By unanimous vote Thursday night, Suwanee council members adopted the proposed $11.5 million budget for fiscal 2007-08."It's a balanced budget and addresses the needs that the city has as it continues to grow," Mayor Nick Masino said. The fiscal year begins July 1.
LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett Medical Center officials announced Thursday their decision to make budget cuts, which include laying off 72 hospital employees.As part of a four-month plan, the hospital is making more than $22 million in cost reductions, affecting both the Lawrenceville and Duluth medical center locations, hospital spokesman Kyle Brogdon said. The layoffs account for less than half the $22 million in cuts. Medical Center President and CEO Phil Wolfe said the decision to cut back was a way of balancing the hospital's revenues and costs. "What we do, it's a dynamic process. We do our best in budgeting what we think we need," Wolfe said. "Sometimes revenues proceed our expenses and sometimes our expenses exceed our revenues. It's really trying to balance it all, and we needed to readjust our expenses so we can meet the needs of the community."
