Lamp starts blaze in Buford home

•BUFORD - A Buford resident tried to fight a fire inside a home Wednesday, authorities said.

According to a Gwinnett County Fire Department press release, the fire started in an upstairs bedroom of the home on Goldmist Drive shortly before 3:30 a.m.

Firefighters believe the blaze started accidentally by lamp that was close to a bed in the room.

A resident tried to extinguish the fire with a portable extinguisher but was unsuccessful. The family escaped unharmed, the release said.

The fire was contained to the bedding and carpet and did not cause any structural damage to the home.

Grease fire damages kitchen

•LAWRENCEVILLE - Firefighters were able to keep a grease fire from spreading beyond the kitchen of a Lawrenceville home Monday, an official said.

According to Lt. Thomas Rutledge of the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the fire at 215 Park Meadows Drive originated on the stove and spread to the kitchen cabinets before fire crews arrived just before 6 p.m.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the house, Rutledge said. The fire caused moderate damage to the kitchen and sent smoke throughout the house.

Rutledge said the occupant escaped unharmed.

Man robbed outside Norcross home

•NORCROSS - A man was robbed outside his Norcross home Tuesday by two men, a police report said.

The man was approached by two black men while getting out of his truck in front of his home on Treehouse Parkway shortly after midnight. One of the men pointed a gun at the man and demanded his wallet and keys.

One man grabbed the man's wallet, removed $10, then both men ran away.

Man robbed in apartment parking lot

•DULUTH - While in the parking lot outside his apartment at the Gables at Sugarloaf, a Duluth man said he was robbed.

According to a police report, the 19-year-old man said he was grabbed from behind by a black man who was demanding money.

The 19-year-old said two other black men searched his pockets and removed his cell phone and wallet, then threw him to the ground.

The three men got into a silver car and drove away.

Juvenile arrested after egg hits car

•WINDER - A juvenile boy was arrested last Thursday when he threw an egg onto a passing car.

The driver told police he slammed on his brakes when the egg hit the car and saw the boy run into a house. Deputies saw moderate damage to the vehicle's front where the egg struck it. The driver added that he hit his neck on the steering wheel when he slammed on the brakes.

The driver identified the juvenile, and the boy was arrested.
