LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett County police officer remains in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center after a Thursday motorcycle wreck.
Gwinnett County Police Spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said the 26-year-old off-duty officer failed to round a curve and crashed his 2006 Honda motorcycle into a tree off of Ronald Reagan Parkway shortly after 8 p.m. Investigators are unsure what caused the officer to wreck. According to Moloney, test results are pending, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the accident, although he said speed may have been an issue. "Speed has not been ruled out, and any type of analysis of his speed will take time," Moloney said. Moloney said he was not yet releasing the officer's name because officers are waiting to notify out-of-state family in Louisiana before giving out that information. Moloney believes the only family notified so far is the officer's mother and father. Moloney said the young officer had only been employed with the department about a year.More like this story
