NORCROSS - Investigators are working to find who is responsible for the death of a 23-year-old man from Atlanta.
After receiving calls reporting a person shot, police found Ivan Luna Bailon lying lifeless, face down in a grassy area at the Jasmine at Peachtree Corners apartment complex shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, according to a police report.
Medics and a medical examiner confirmed Bailon was shot to death at the Norcross complex near building 6420 on Crestline Terrace.
According to the report, police originally thought they were looking for two black men after a witness told an officer he saw Bailon walking with the two men before the shots were fired, but Gwinnett County Police Department Spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said there is no clear description available for the person or people who fired the shot that killed Bailon.
"The only witnesses we've found are people that heard the shot, but saw nothing," Moloney said.
The report said two people reported hearing gunshots fired at approximately 11 p.m. Another man thought he saw two men flee in a white Grand Marquis.
Moloney said investigators do believe they are looking for more than one person connected to the shooting, but witness statements have not led them anywhere.
Right now, Moloney said, investigators are working to find out more about Bailon. Moloney said at this point a motive for the 23-year-old's death is unknown.
"(The next step is to) find more information on the victim, try to ascertain why he was there and what he did," Moloney said.
