Duo indicted on murder charges

LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett County grand jury Wednesday indicted a man and woman suspected in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy and injuring another teen.

Cleondre Lacey, 19, of Lawrenceville was indicted on one count of murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm. Stephanie Brianna Buskey, 20, of Johnson City, Tenn., faces one count of felony murder and armed robbery.

Lacey and Buskey were arrested March 17 after Gwinnett police investigators were led to believe the two were involved in a drug-related robbery turned shooting at Kenneth Cunningham's home on Sundale Drive.

According to a police report, officers found Cunningham shot to death inside the home and his 18-year-old friend Paul Theodore Mayhew outside suffering from gunshot wounds.

Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene, and Mayhew was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center.

Gwinnett police Detective J.D. Smith, who testified in court at a hearing in April, said Lacey and Buskey went to the home to steal marijuana. Police believe Buskey drove to the home and stayed in a vehicle outside while Lacey went inside.

Smith said he learned Lacey and Buskey met with a group of at least four other men and discussed robbing Cunningham of marijuana before the March incident.

District Attorney Danny Porter said Buskey and Lacey remain in custody, but he said he could not comment much more on the case.

Porter said the two face life in prison if convicted of murder.

An arraignment hearing is expected for the two sometime in the next 30 days, Porter said.
