Lilburn doesn't change millage rate for 2007

LILBURN - The Lilburn City Council agreed here Monday night to maintain its present 4.26 annual millage rate for 2007, but, because of property reassessments, a city homeowner who sells his house will face an increase of 5.84 percent in Gwinnett County property taxes.

Andrew David Bowman, Sr. age 83 of Snellville, died Saturday June 9, 2007. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the Sunrise Baptist Church in Lawrenceville. Rev. J.B. Reese, Jr. and Dr. David Poe will officiate. Interment will follow at the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawrenceville. Born August 27, 1923 in rural Gwinnett County he was the son of the late James E. and Tiny Parker Bowman. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II stationed in Greenland from 1943 to 1945, 60 year member of the IBEW Local 613 in Atlanta, Mason of 50 years at the Clarkston and Snellville Lodges, lived 17 years in Clarkston and served one term on the Clarkston City Council and coached youth baseball and softball in Clarkston and Tucker. Also served as assistant cubmaster and cubmaster for Pack 458 in Clarkston. He served as Vice President and President of Clarkston High School Sports Booster Club. He was the owner and manager of Bowman Electric Company in Snellville and then in Lilburn. He lived the last 39 1/2 years in Snellville and was active in church, community and political groups. Spent 12 years clogging with the Bucking Buttoneers and Georgia Sunshine Cloggers which won the world championship for clogging in 1983. Member of Sunrise Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, Georgia where he served as Deacon Emeritus.
