DACULA - Police are looking for the person responsible for stealing two ATM machines from a Bank of America building in Dacula on Friday morning.
Police believe the machines were detached from the building located at 3535 Braselton Highway using a tractor found in the bank's parking lot at 3:44 a.m.
Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said 911 received information from bank security who discovered the theft on bank cameras.
"We think it's one possibly white male," Moloney said of the person seen in bank surveillance videos. "The majority of the video shows the tractor pulling the ATM out."
According to a police press release, when searching the area near the bank officers found two pickup trucks crashed off the roadway. Moloney said the vehicles contained no people, but the bed of each truck held the missing ATMs.
The machines, Moloney said, appeared to be recovered before any money was taken from them.
Moloney said although police have reviewed the tape, the video of the theft has not been provided to police, but the bank is "fully cooperating."
"It is expected to be made available to the department some time early next week," Moloney said.
Moloney said this type of theft has happened before in the county, but believed this was the first theft of it's kind this year.
"No, unfortunately, we have had some ATM thefts in the past," Moloney said. "I believe it involved a tractor or a John Deere-type device."
