Attempted arson, vandalism at Chateau Elan
•BRASELTON - Braselton police responded to reports of attempted arson Wednesday and vandalism Thursday, both at Chateau Elan.
A homeowner told police Wednesday that someone had entered his Weeping Oak Drive basement. The intruders started three small fires and knocked two holes in the wall, police reports state.
The homeowner told police he had seen two white teenage boys on bicycles behind his residence.
Thursday, a security guard at the Chateau Elan pool told police he caught two white teenage boys riding their bicycles into the pool after it had closed. Someone had thrown the pool umbrellas into the pool after closing Wednesday night, the guard told police.
Investigators are reviewing security camera video.
Groom's mother gets punched
•LAWRENCEVILLE - The groom's mother was allegedly punched in the face at her son's wedding reception when a guest got out of hand.
The guest, Christopher Norton, was trying to start a fight with the groom at the reception when the mother stepped between them, a police report said. Norton said he was horsing around when members of the wedding party beat him to the ground and dragged him to his car, according to the report.
Norton, a 22-year-old Gainesville resident, was charged with battery and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail following the Sunday incident.
Man arrested after cops threatened
•NORCROSS - A man who was trying to flag down passing cars after he was allegedly robbed and beaten was later charged with disorderly conduct after police said he threatened officers who tried to help him.
Larry Kane, a 50-year-old Norcross resident, was jumping out in front of cars Sunday morning, according to a police report. Kane, who told police he was robbed and beaten, said he did not want an ambulance.
Police smelled alcohol on his breath and drove him home, the report said. An hour later, they were called again when Kane could not get into his apartment.
Kane, a Denny's employee, allegedly told the officers not to come to the restaurant any more "or else" after he was told they could not let him into his apartment.
He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.
Watch allegedly stolen from store
•DULUTH - A man allegedly stole a $28,000 watch after asking a jewelry store employee to clean his ring.
The man was looking at the Rolex watch at a Latinos Joyeros in the Santa Fe Mall, according to a police report. when he asked an employee to clean the ring for him.
When she took the ring to clean it, the man allegedly took off running.
He was described as a black man about 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 225 pounds and in his early 20s, wearing all black with a black baseball hat and sunglasses. The man allegedly had a black handgun in his pocket.
The employee chased the man out of the mall and said he drove off in a white Nissan or Mazda without a license plate, the report said.
