Sugar Hill to get shopping center

SUGAR HILL - A 250,000-square-foot retail development is being planned for the Sugar Hill community at the intersection of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Tench Road.

The development, Sugar Hill MarketPlace, will feature five anchor stores, approximately 30,000 square feet of small shop space and four outparcels.

Jenn Weyand, spokeswoman for North American Properties, said the company is still in negotiations with several national retailers and cannot release what stores will go into the center.

Weyand said North American Properties is one of the premier developers of Target stores - they've developed 11 nationwide - but she could not confirm that Target was looking to add a Sugar Hill location.

The shopping center is expected to open in spring 2009.

Residents looking for the type of national retail stores North American Properties hopes to attract currently have to drive to either the John's Creek area or the Mall of Georgia, Weyand said.

"The diversity and quality of tenants we have in mind for Sugar Hill will certainly enhance the amenity base for this area," said Jeff Garrison, vice president of development for North American Properties.

The retail center will be located on 29 acres of property.

The recently completed extension of Tench Road establishes the western boundary of the development site.
