Man injured after car flips over

•LAWRENCEVILLE - A man was injured Thursday when his car flipped on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Lawrenceville.

The single-car accident occurred about 4 p.m. near U.S. Highway 29. The man was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gas leak closes Buford Highway

•DULUTH - Firefighters closed all lanes of Buford Highway at Old Peachtree Road because of a gas leak during rush hour on Thursday.

A construction crew digging with a backhoe struck a 2-inch gas line and a passing motorist reported a gas leak to 911 about 8 a.m.

Firefighters had to close the road and evacuate a nearby tire store for an hour while the Gwinnett Fire Department's hazardous materials team brought the leak under control and monitored gas readings in the immediate area.

No injuries and no further evacuations were reported.

Grass fires break out along Ga. Highway 20

•BUFORD - Grass fires burning between Ga. Highway 20 and Woodward Mill Road caused Gwinnett County firefighters to close one southbound lane on Interstate 985 early Thursday morning.

The fire department received calls about 7 a.m. and firefighters responded to find six small spot fires burning in the grass. The scene was under control and the closed lane was reopened at 7:30 am.

The cause of the fires is undetermined at this time.

Man arrested after calling 911 for ride home

•NORCROSS - A Lawrenceville man got more than he asked for after he called 911 and demanded police give him a ride home.

Robert Terry Carter was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct early Monday morning.

When police arrived, Carter, 32, smelled of alcohol, appeared to have urinated on himself and "rather rudely" told police to give him a ride home, a police report said.

Police opted instead to place Carter under arrest and transport him to jail.

Man robbed at Duluth apartment

•DULUTH - A Duluth man said he was victim of an armed robbery as he arrived home to his apartment late Monday night.

The victim said he got to the Madison at Breckinridge apartments at 11:23 p.m. and while he was parking his car he was confronted by three black men.

One man, whom the victim believed to be 16 to 20 years old, approached the victim with a small black handgun and demanded his keys. The victim gave him his keys and the three men ran away.
