Machovec, Cheek pick up ATC awards

Dacula's Eve Machovec and Mill Creek's Cameron Cheek picked up postseason honors from the Atlanta Track Club on Tuesday night.

Machovec was awarded the fifth annual Red Smith Award given to the outstanding female field athlete for her performance in the discus. Cheek picked up the 38th annual Bruce Yohe Award given to the outstanding male field athlete for his performance in the pole vault.

Ten Gwinnett County athletes also were named to the Atlanta Track Club's All-Metro team.

On the girls All-Metro Team were Meadowcreek's Brittany Hall (800-meter run), Collins Hill's Jackie Drouin (1,600), Dacula's Erica Penk (pole vault) and Machovec (discus).

Collins Hill coaches Andrew Hudson and Richard Ramsey were named All-Metro coaches.

The boys All-Metro Team included Parkview's Marcelis Lynch (800), Bermar's Girma Mecheso (3,200), South Gwinnett's Larry Cooper (triple jump), Collins Hill's Eric Gill (discus), Brookwood's Terrance Davis (high jump) and Mill Creek's Cheek (pole vault).
