NORCROSS - A 29-year-old Winder man died Thursday after he struck a turning vehicle on his motorcycle in Norcross, police said.
Joshua Ramsey was pronounced dead at the scene when his 1997 Suzuki 1000 collided with a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Pacific Drive. The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m.
A preliminary investigation has found that Damarcus Blackmon, 31, of College Park, was traveling east in a 1998 Ford Explorer on Jimmy Carter Boulevard and intended to turn left onto Pacific Drive, when he was motioned by a westbound driver stopped in traffic to turn, police said.
Blackmon turned into the path of Ramsey, who was traveling in the right lane of Jimmy Carter Boulevard. The motorcyclist struck the passenger's side of Blackmon's vehicle and died shortly afterward, according to investigators.
Blackmon complained of minor injuries and was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center.
"All parties involved were properly wearing their safety devices," Gwinnett Police Department spokesperson Cpl. Illana Spellman said in a release. "At this stage of the investigation, drugs (or) alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors."
Investigators do not believe Ramsey was speeding at the time of impact.
