5 displaced in Buford blaze

BUFORD - A Friday morning house fire in Buford displaced a family of five, including three children, according to officials.

The 1,500-square-foot home, located on Jimmy Dodd Road, was not occupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was controlled by firefighters just before noon or about a half-hour after an initial dispatch, said investigators.

The fire caused heavy damage to the structure and a collapse of the roof at its center, Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Tommy Rutledge said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Rutledge said the blaze was reported to 911 dispatchers by a passing motorist.

"It took approximately 25 firefighters to bring the blaze under control," Rutledge said.
