DACULA - Police have identified the driver killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday.
Gwinnett Police Department Spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said 33-year-old Cesar Garcia Loza of Dacula was driving a 1994 Ford truck when the vehicle ran off Old Peachtree Road and struck a utility pole.
Loza was pronounced dead at the scene. Moloney said alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the wreck, but toxicology tests are pending.
Moloney said two passengers killed in a separate accident in Dacula a week ago have also been identified.
Nicolas Jaen Garcia, 39, and his son 20-year-old Eric Jaen Jimenez were riding in the back seat of 38-year-old Virginia Jimenez-Cabrera's Honda Accord July 8 when the car was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer, Moloney said. All three were killed as well as Jimenez-Cabrera's 12-year-old daughter Victoria Cabrera.
Moloney said the Honda was stopped at a traffic light at Ga. Highway 316 and Winder Highway when the truck struck the rear of the car. The force of the collision impacted other nearby vehicles, including a Lincoln Town car and conversion travel bus. Those inside the other vehicles were not injured.
According to a Police Department press release, the driver of the tractor-trailer, 41-year-old Ernest R. Brown Jr., admitted to falling asleep while driving. Moloney said drugs nor alcohol appear to be involved and charges are pending against Brown.
