DULUTH - Forward Brandon Kaleniecki, who missed the vast majority of his rookie season with an elbow injury, was signed by the Gwinnett Gladiators on Tuesday and then promptly traded to the Las Vegas Wranglers for financial consideration.
Gladiators head coach Jeff Pyle said Kaleniecki requested the move, wanting a fresh start after his season here was practically wiped out. Kaleniecki enters the 2007-08 season as a rookie because he played only 19 games last season. The 25-year-old Michigan native hyperextended his elbow in a game on Dec. 1 and didn't return until the end of March. He posted five goals and six assists for the Gladiators in the regular season., and added a goal and an assist in four playoff games. Prior to turning pro last season, Kaleniecki racked up 64 goals and 36 assists for 100 points in 159 career collegiate games at the University of Michigan. The Gladiators, the ECHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers, begin their fifth season in Gwinnett on Oct. 19, at home against Pensacola. - Christine TroykeMore like this story
