LAWRENCEVILLE - An unidentified man was killed Monday morning when his vehicle struck a utility pole, police said.
According to Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney, a Hispanic man driving a 1994 Ford truck was traveling south on Old Peachtree Road near Castle Royal Drive in Lawrenceville when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck the pole about 12:15 a.m. Moloney said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Moloney said alcohol and speed appear to have contributed to the fatal wreck, but toxicology reports to confirm alcohol use are pending. According to Moloney, estimates of how fast the man may have been traveling will also take some time. "Speeds are estimated on the investigator's final report," Moloney said. According to Moloney, it is unknown at this time if the man was wearing his seat belt. As far as how long it could take to identify the man, Moloney said he could not make any estimates.More like this story
