LAWRENCEVILLE - The Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation has hired Heery International to design and manage the renovations to a building that will house the college's student services offices.
Renovations to 25,000 square feet in the former Plumbing Distributors Inc. building on Collins Hill Road began June 18 and are scheduled to end in late September, Heery officials said.
The $2.75 million renovation will create space for student services such as admissions, financial aid and student affairs offices, said Jennifer Stephens, Georgia Gwinnett College's director of public affairs.
"It's designed to be a one-stop shop," Stephens said.
This is the first of two phases of planned renovations in the former PDI building, Stephens said. The cost of the second phase, which is to include a bookstore, has not been determined. The College Foundation purchased the 75,000-square-foot building in 2006 for $3.8 million.
Heery has worked on several projects for schools within the University System of Georgia, including Valdosta State University, Georgia Tech, Southern Polytechnic State University, Kennesaw State University and the University of Georgia, according to a news release from the company.
Georgia Gwinnett College, the state's newest four-year college, opened in August. It is accepting applications for its first freshman class.
