Lilburn bank robbed

LILBURN - Lilburn police are searching for a man caught on tape robbing a local bank early Tuesday afternoon.

The robber entered the Flagstar bank branch at 4014 Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn shortly after 2:30 p.m. and showed a gun in his waistband, a preliminary police investigation indicated.

The man then ordered a bank employee to go behind the teller counter and place money in his bag. The man fled before police arrived. Police could not disclose how much money was taken, said Sgt. Tyler Thomas, spokesman for the Lilburn Police Department.

Video of the robber shows him wearing a blue baseball hat and glasses with a sunglass visor attached.

"The witnesses said it appeared he wasn't trying to disguise himself," Thomas said.

Witnesses described the robber as a white man in his 40s or 50s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build.

The robber fled the scene in a dark colored sport utility vehicle, police said.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the man to call the Lilburn Police Department's tip line at 770-638-2220.

Thomas said the FBI is assisting in the investigation.
