DULUTH - Gwinnett police officers arrested James Kenneth Staples, 34, hours after the police SWAT team had converged around his home Saturday.
Officers had responded to a domestic disturbance at Staples' Duluth home Friday. Officers returned Saturday afternoon responding to reports that Staples was inside the home, armed with a handgun and threatening violence, according to police reports. Although no one answered the door, officers saw movement inside the house, reports said.
The Gwinnett County Police Department SWAT team arrived at 3:20 p.m. and entered the home, where they realized the movement officers saw was the police dog inside the residence, according to police reports.
Staples was arrested without incident at 8:50 p.m. at the Knight's Inn at Oakbrook Parkway and Indian Trail Road in Norcross. Charges against Staples were not released at press time.
