WINDER - Workers are ready to begin upgrades to the soccer field at Victor Lord Park, and lighting must come first, Michael Fischer, Barrow County's deputy administrator, said.
Barrow County Commissioners will vote Monday whether to award the lighting contract to Georgia Power. Barrow County received a $100,000 Land Water Conservation Fund grant about 18 months ago. That grant, combined with money from the one-cent sales tax fund, will pay for new lighting, grading, sod, fencing and a new irrigation system to turn the former baseball field into a up-to-date soccer field. The lighting contract was put out for bid, but no one bid on the project, Fischer said. The work must be completed by December, according to Fischer, and lights have to go up first. Workers are ready to begin clearing the property next week, he said. "It's only about a month's worth of work, once we get started," Fischer said. "We have partnered with the schools and baseball fields to use for the fall soccer league."More like this story
