LAWRENCEVILLE - A man found shot to death behind a Norcross church on Jan. 21 has been identified.
Using fingerprint analysis, investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Department have determined the man is 35-year-old Alfredo Hernandez-Azo from Mexico. Hernandez-Azo's body was found in the parking lot behind St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 2140 Beaver Ruin Road after a 5 p.m. mass when gunshots were heard by the congregation. Police responded to calls from the church of a person down. Cpl. Darren Moloney, Gwinnett County police spokesman, said investigators are not commenting on a motive or any possible suspect or suspects. "Right now we're trying to piece it all together," he said. "And we'll follow leads and see where it takes us." Moloney said although Hernandez-Azo is from Mexico he was living in Forest Park. Moloney said the man's family has been notified but was unsure if he was married or has children, and he said he is unsure of the man's status in the United States. "He had no known criminal or arrest history in Gwinnett County," Moloney said. Moloney said St. Patrick's Church is not involved with the incident, and he said the man is not believed to be a member of the church.More like this story
