WINDER - Barrow County Emergency Management Agency received a $15,000 Homeland Security Grant.
The money will be used by the Community Emergency Response Team, which trains Barrow County residents in disaster preparedness. It will be used to purchase a fire extinguisher training kit, as well as emergency supply backpacks, T-shirts, educational supplies and teaching tools. "It will be a more inexpensive way to train citizens since we can charge the extinguishers ourselves," said Capt. Mark Melvin, deputy director. CERT members are trained in search and rescue, first aid, fire control and disaster psychology preparation. For more information about CERT training classes, call Fire Medic Andrew Dykes at 770-307-2987.More like this story
