Grand jury indicts six on drug charges

LAWRENCEVILLE - Three men and one woman were indicted together by a Gwinnett County grand jury this week on multiple drug-related charges.

James William Bratcher, Miguel Angel Barrera, Kelia Rivera Garcia and Lewis Phillip Cervantes were indicted in connection with their Aug. 30 arrests in which drugs and firearms were seized, according to the bill of indictment.

Bratcher is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Barrera and Garcia are charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, with Garcia also charged with tampering with evidence.

Cervantes is charged with possession of cocaine.

According to the indictment, Garcia and Barrera are accused of having 28 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine and possessing the drug Meperidine with the intent to distribute.

Garcia also allegedly tampered evidence by putting cocaine in her mouth in an attempt to destroy it.

In another case, Abderrazak Merchoud and Kimberly Ashley Cardell are charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of cocaine, witth Merchoud also charged with trafficking in ecstasy.

According to the indictment, Merchoud had more than 200 grams of a mixture containing a schedule I controlled substance at the time of his arrest on June 23.

Both cases have been assigned Gwinnett judges.
