Man accused of stealing blades

•LILBURN - A Lawrenceville man was arrested and charged with shoplifting Monday morning.

According to a police report, John Miles McGinnis, 42, of 4320 Sugarloaf Parkway, allegedly tried to steal nine saw blades and a tape measure from the Lowe's store at 4855 Stone Mountain Highway.

He was stopped by a store employee before leaving with the items, according to the report. McGinnis told police he needed the items for a job.

He was taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

Woman thwarts would-be burglar

•DULUTH - A woman was able to stop a man from breaking into her Duluth home Monday morning.

According to a police report, the woman opened her door when she heard the doorbell ring and was met by a man who tried to enter her home.

She pushed the man out of her home and locked the door. He fled when she pushed the panic button on her alarm system.

The man fled in a black Ford Expedition. She described him as a heavy-set Hispanic man with a scar under his right eye.

Boy shot in eye with BB gun

•BRASELTON - An 11-year-old boy might lose his sight in one eye after being shot in the eye with a BB gun Jan. 8. Police reports state the boy and two friends were hanging out in the garage when two other boys came over and began shooting the boy with a BB gun.

The boy's father ran them off, but they returned. One boy shot the other boy in the eye from a distance of about 10 feet, the report said.

The boy's father transported him to the hospital, where doctors said the boy could lose his eye sight in that eye.
