Engineer promoted to oversee I-85 work

LAWRENCEVILLE - A transportation engineer has been promoted to supervise the $150 million reconstruction of Interstate 85 at Ga. Highway 316 interchange.

Matt Needham was named assistant area engineer for construction and project engineer for the interchange by Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Russell McMurry.

"I am confident Matt is the right man for this job," McMurry said. "He has been on the 85/316 project since it began and he will do an excellent job leading that team. Together with his leadership and work ethic, he is an asset to the citizens of Georgia."

Needham began working with the agency in 2002 as part of the Transportation Engineering Associates Training Program. He was assigned to the Construction Office in Lawrenceville to supervise construction projects.

In March of 2004, he was promoted to a Construction Project Engineer, where he served as project engineer on the widening of Ga. Highway 124 in Snellville.

As assistant area engineer for construction, Needham supervises 20 employees and is responsible for all construction projects on over 300 centerline miles of highways and interstates in the area.

The Monroe man graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
