Suwanee Chick-fil-A opening boasts free food for a year contest

SUWANEE - The first 100 customers who show up at a new Chick-fil-A by 6 a.m. Thursday will be given coupons to receive free combination meals for a year.

Cindy Chapman, restaurant spokeswoman, said the restaurant has done this for store openings since 2003.

The new stand-alone restaurant is at 1035 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Suwanee and is the first grand opening in Gwinnett County since the opening party-like events began nearly four years ago.

There will be complementary food and entertainment and as well as the chance to win free Chick-fil-A for a year at the opening.

Chapman said restaurant president Dan Cathy, son of the chain's founder Truett Cathy, believes the giveaway is a way of thanking fans who have supported Chick-fil-A.

Those eligible to win the prize must be 18 years old or older and present photo identification. Chapman said those under the age of 18 are welcome to attend the festivities but must be accompanied by an adult in order to win the free food prize.

She said people often arrive as early as 24 hours in advance in order to achieve one of the coveted winners' spots in line, filling restaurant parking lots with tents and lawn chairs.

"There will be food, entertainment, music and door prizes throughout the night," Chapman said of the grand opening festivities. "We even have Chick-fil-A groupies who will follow store openings around the country."

She said veteran operator Brad Williams, originally from Lilburn, has been selected as the franchisee of the new restaurant.

The restaurant will be complete with indoor and outdoor dining plus drive-through services and a children's play area.

The Chick-fil-A chain has nearly 2,000 restaurants in 37 states and Washington, D.C., and plans to add more than 80 location this year, including 70 stand-alone restaurants.
