The top unsigned senior in Gwinnett County has officially chosen his future home.
One day after helping lead the Peachtree Ridge Lions to a huge win over nationally ranked Norcross in the Region 7-AAAAA finals, point guard Kevin Anderson committed to the University of Richmond on Sunday.
"I developed a great relationship with the coaches there and I really liked the direction they are going," Anderson told Rivals.com's Justin Young. "They said they need a point guard and in the Atlantic 10, it's a guard heavy conference. I'm looking forward to helping that program turn around."
Anderson has already done wonders for Peachtree Ridge. After transferring from Whitefield Academy before the season started, the 6-foot, lightning-quick guard has turned the Lions into a legitimate state title contender.
He is the team's second leading scorer and leading assist man, and also rebounds quite well for his size - he pulled down a team-high nine in the win over Norcross on Saturday.
But the biggest thing Anderson does is simple: He helps his team win.
And he's hoping for more of the same once he gets to college.
"The coach there has won everywhere he's been," Anderson told Rivals.com. "At Air Force, (Chris Mooney) helped them turn it around even when he didn't have too many options when it came to recruiting. I'm looking forward to helping them do that (at Richmond)."
It's the second straight year a Region 7-AAAAA point guard has committed to an Atlantic 10 school. Norcross grad Brenton Butler signed with Fordham a season ago and is coming off a career-high 28-point performance on Saturday.
Anderson becomes the third Division I basketball signee for the Lions, joining fellow seniors Zach Graham (Ole Miss) and Bassey Inameti (Tennessee Tech).
Teammates Cameron Heyward and Sidney Haynes signed football scholarships with Ohio State and Central Florida, respectively.
