BUFORD - Good news ladies.
The Mall of Georgia has confirmed three new stores opening later this year and they involve smells, shoes and clothes.
Sephora (fragrances and cosmetics), Nine West (women's shoes) and 5.7.9 (women's apparel) will begin construction on new stores March 1 and the mall hopes to see construction completed by early this summer, said mall General Manager Mike Lowrey.
The Mall of Georgia has been trying to appeal to its female clientele lately, adding several other stores that cater to women over the past several months. Ann Taylor Loft, a 6,066-square-foot women's department store, opened in November and Coldwater Creek, which also features women's apparel, opened in October.
"We love those women shoppers," Lowrey said.
Currently the mall has 23 stores devoted solely to women's fashions. By comparison, there are only three stores devoted to only men's fashions.
And with even more stores for the ladies on the way, that means an exit for several of the mall's current stores.
Sephora's addition will mean the departure of the Earthbound Trading Company, but Lowrey was unsure which stores Nine West and 5.7.9 would be replacing.
Sephora is the leading beauty retail chain in Europe, according to its Web site, and currently operates three other stores in Georgia.
"It's a really popular store with cosmetics and perfumes," said Mall of Georgia spokesperson Ashley Cameron. "Girls really love it."
The Earthbound Trading Company, on the other hand, offers anything from bamboo chimes from Bali to marble from Pakistan and may not have fit with the mainstream consumer.
"We're improving the merchandise," Lowrey said. "We've just got to keep evolving and changing and improving. It's the normal cycle of things."
Sephora, Nine West and 5.7.9 are all expected to join the lower level of the Nordstrom wing.
The Mall of Georgia, which opened in September 1999, remains the largest mall in the Southeast with 2.1 million square footage of retail space. The mall currently has 225 stores.
