Youth roundup: Norcross Fury win Sun Bowl tournament

The Under-16 Norcross Fury Gold won the Tampa Bay Sun Bowl tournament on Dec. 30.

The team played seven games in four days, winning the championship in a shootout to remain undefeated for the season.

Team members are: Eric Wierzbinski, Will Whorton, Bayan Vojdani, Chris Thomas, Adam Schraudenbach, Alex Reyes, Duane LeVine, Aldo Lara, Richard Klemm, Zac Kannan, Zack Johnson, Jacob Hamilton, Tyler Gutzman, Saudin Garanovic, Eric Fletcher, Jordan Erickson, Alex Crooks, Caulin Collier and Ryan MacGregor (guest player). The team is coached by Tony Annan.


GGA fares well at Sand Dollar meet

The Georgia Gymnastics Academy had a nice showing at the Sand Dollar meet in Orlando.

Jessalyn Earley placed first in the bars, beam and floor and fourth in the vault to finish with a score of 34.425 in the level six competition. Hannah Hairston was first in the bars, second in the beam, third in the vault and fifth in the floor to finish with a score of 34.375 and a third-place finish. Allie Teihaber was first in the beam and fourth in the vault, bars and floor and fourth overall with a score of 34.25.

In the level five competition, Anyssa Williams was second in the beam, fourth in the bars, seventh in floor and 12th in the vault for a score of 34.925 and fourth place finish. Caitlin Palanza was third in the beam, fourth in vault, sixth in the bars and 14th in the floor to finish in seventh with a 34.1 score. Morgan Reed was fifth in the beam, seventh in the floor, ninth in the bars and 11th in vault for a 35.125 score.


Ness wins Dixie Nationals

Chip Ness from Duluth placed first in the 10-and-under 90-pound weight class at the Dixie Nationals wrestling tournament in Atlanta on Dec. 28.

Ness also placed second at the WOW Classic in Cincinnati and third at Reno Nationals in December.


In-line racing event

coming to Grayson

Approximately 350 to 400 youngsters will participate in St. Patrick's Weekend in Georgia, an in-line racing event held in Grayson on March 16-18.

The skating event begins on March 16 with three-person, 100-meter time trials. On Saturday, there will be novice, standard and grand veteran races.

Money raised at the event will go towards St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
