GRAYSON - A Grayson High School teacher and coach recently resigned after police say he locked a student in a classroom trailer and sexually assaulted her.
Marcus Lancaster, 23, was arrested Dec. 21 and charged with sexual battery and sexual assault, a felony. Sloan Roach, a spokeswoman for Gwinnett County Public Schools, said Lancaster was hired this year as a social studies teacher. He resigned Dec. 19 after the school district launched an investigation into the alleged assault, Roach said. Lancaster also coached Grayson football's junior varsity team and freshman baseball team this year, according to the school. He is married with a young son. According to an arrest warrant, Lancaster locked the girl in a classroom trailer and began kissing her and fondling her "intimate parts for the purpose of sexual gratification." Roach said the alleged victim was a female Grayson student. Lancaster posted a $18,900 bond and was released the same day he was arrested. He did not return a message left on his cell phone Friday. Roach said Gwinnett schools will file a report detailing the accusations with the Division of Family and Children Services and with the Professional Standards Commission - an organization that oversees teacher certifications. "Obviously, we take any type of report like this very seriously," she said. Members of the coaching staff were not available for comment.More like this story
