STONE MOUNTAIN - Police continued hunting Thursday for three men suspected of abducting a Stone Mountain couple during an unorthodox robbery of their Buckhead jewelry business.
Gwinnett police described the three suspects as black males who were armed with handguns during the Wednesday robbery. Tipsters are urged to call the Gwinnett County criminal investigations section at 770-513-5300. Police say the gunmen knocked on the front door of a Pounds Road home owned by Sunram and Sandra Mahabal, proprietors of a jewelry store on Piedmont Road. When the couple answered the door, they were forced from their home at gunpoint, while one gunman stayed behind with the couple's 15-year-old son, said Gwinnett police spokesman David Schiralli. The robbers demanded the couple drive them in their Hummer to the jewelry store, where Sunram Mahabal was able to escape and call police, Schiralli said. Gwinnett police arrived at the Stone Mountain home about 11 a.m. to find the teen alone and unharmed. Schiralli said the suspects took an undetermined amount of money and valuables from the jewelry store. Police found the red Hummer parked a short distance away in Atlanta, he said.More like this story
