Theater group presents check to library

WINDER - Winder-Barrow Community Theatre was proud to present a check for $635 to the Winder Branch of the Piedmont Regional Library.

This money was donated out of the ticket proceeds of the play, "And Then There Were None," and will be used to purchase books for the juvenile section of the library to help update that section.

Each production of the Winder-Barrow Community Theatre provides money to a nonprofit group that is sponsored by WBCT.

Stores awarded for displays

STONE MOUNTAIN - Interiors by Decorating Den took first place in Main Street Stone Mountain's first storefront display contest.

Continental Coffee and Sweets won second place.

Other participants included The Sycamore Grill, Village Hair Studio, Barron's Restoration, Swan Galleries, Continental Park Cafe, Mama Mia's Italian Restaurant, State Farm Insurance, Good Sense Fragrances, Art Station II, Old Post Office Antique Mall and the Village Corner German Restaurant.

The first place winner received a $100 gift certificate to Sycamore Grill and other gifts from the Cranky Princess, the Art Station and Continental Coffee & Sweets, while second place received a $50 gift certificate from Interiors by Decorating Den and other gifts from Mama Mia's, Loving Care Chiropractic and Village Hair Studio.

Each winner will be displaying their award ribbon for the rest of the holidays.

Local woman gets promotion

GAINESVILLE - Hiral Patel was promoted to area engineer for area one of district one in the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Patel, who lives in Suwanee, is responsible for the construction and maintenance of more than 300 centerline miles of state routes and interstates in her area, which serves Dawson, Forsyth and Hall counties.
