Young Chefs Academy in Buford will offer a three-day mini cooking camp for children ages 5 to 15 Wednesday through Friday. A morning session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an afternoon session runs from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. The academy is located at 1935-C Buford Mill Drive, Buford. A New Year's Eve Dance will run from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Dec. 31 at the Bethesda Center, located at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Highway and Bethesda Road in Lawrenceville. Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club will hold its 11th annual Polar Bear Swim at 2 p.m. Jan. 1 at the club, 3105 Clarks Bridge Road, Gainesville. LCKC is a nonprofit group for Olympic flat-water canoe and kayak hopefuls. This year's theme is "Low Tide," as the event will be held during drought conditions.
