Stone Mountain creates charming holiday scene
It's a scene that only happens in holiday movies: a quaint, snow-covered town square, lined with decorated store fronts and a gaggle of carolers calling from the corner.
Sigh - it sounds so pleasant. Sigh - it sounds so unrealistic. But it's the magical holiday season, and if reindeer can fly, then anything's possible.
Stone Mountain Village will create a charming seasonal scene - minus the snow - during Saturday's Walk and Wine Tour. Restaurants, shops and galleries in the historic village square will deck their halls as part of the event. Participating stores will offer discounts on merchandise, as well as serve up edible treats and a sampling of various wines sold at the village restaurants.
Wine tastings will be held at The Sycamore Grill, Bundos Italian Market, Wells Cargo Cafe, and Continental Coffee and Sweets. Stores offering discounts include The Flower Boutique, Sweet Honey House, Good Sense Fragrances, Village Hair Studio and The Cranky Princess.
And, of course, music is needed to seal the jolly deal. Carolers from Shiloh High School and the Annistown Road Baptist Church Choir will supply the seasonal sounds.
The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call 770-498-7334 or visit www.mainstreetstonemountain.com.
Grapes to host wine tasting
You may not even be thinking about New Year's Eve yet, but Grapes and Hops Bar and Bistro sure is. To help party hosts plan out their perfect Peach Drop menu, the Flowery Branch restaurant will host a tasting of champagnes and sparkling wines.
The tasting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the restaurant, 4856 Hog Mountain Road, Flowery Branch. Admission is $20 per person, and reservations are requested. For more information, call 770-965-9145 or visit www.grapesandhopsbarandbistro.com.
Drink recipes are a limited edition
Atlanta's Mosaic Cafe recently introduced the Chef's Sparkler cocktail to its brimming libations menu, but the drink will only be available through Jan. 1.
Created by Executive Chef Darrell Rice, the drink blends fresh peach nectar with vanilla and sugar, and is topped with champagne. Think a perfect Bellini with a twist. Mosaic is located at 3097 Maple Drive in Atlanta. For more information, call 404-846-5722 or visit www.mosaicatl.com.
Murphy's, too, has introduced a concoction to pair with the current winter wonderland: Murphy's Ski Slope. The warm drink combines indulgent ingredients such as chocolate, peppermint schnapps, milk, cinnamon and sugar, and trumps both hot chocolate and a cup of eggnog, hands down.
The cocktail will be available throughout the winter season. Murphy's is located at 997 Virginia Ave. NE, Atlanta. Call 404-872-0904 or visit www.concentricsrestaurants.com.
