Next year's Corky Kell Classic will have a Gwinnett County feel to it as three local teams were selected to participate.
Brookwood will face Walton in he annual event at the Georgia Dome on Saturday, Aug. 23. Norcross will take on Camden County and Grayson will face McEachern.
The fourth game is Starr's Mill vs. Etowah, which is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. No time has been set for the other three games.
"I like the matchups very much and there's a possibility of us adding a fifth game at 9 p.m., but we're still looking into that," Corky Kell director Dave Hunter said.
"We're excited about it. There's three Gwinnett teams, but they're all outstanding teams."
There was talk of possibly adding out of state powers Hoover (Ala.) and Byrnes (S.C.), but the committee chose to keep it just Georgia teams.
"We kind of wanted to keep it an in-state game if we got quality teams and we got quality teams," Hunter said.
Six of the eight teams made the postseason this year. Camden County and Walton are still in playoffs and will play in the Class AAAAA semifinals today in the Georgia Dome. Brookwood is the defending Region 8-AAAAA champion and Norcross won the Region 7-AAAAA title. Grayson reached the state quarterfinals.
"We're excited about that. It's a reflection of what these guys have done to put us in that position," Norcross head coach Keith Maloof said. "It will be the first time we've played in it, so it will be exciting for our players and community."
Etowah, which is coached by former Parkview assistant Bill Stewart, reached the playoff this season, while Starr's Mill and McEachern typically field strong teams.
The 2008 event will be the 17th straight year of the early-season football games. All but two of the Corky Kell events have been played at the Georgia Dome. Next year's Corky Kell will be played a week before the regular season starts, which is on Friday, Aug. 29.
