The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday released a list of the county's largest non-governmental, non-retail employers.
1. Gwinnett Hospital System: 4,600 A nonprofit health care network in Lawrenceville that earned the 2006 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence and is ranked in the top 5 percent of all hospitals in the nation, according to its Web site. 2. Primerica Financial Services: 1,800 A subsidiary of Citigroup that markets financial services, including debt consolidation loans, mutual funds, home loans, insurance, variable annuities and prepaid legal services. 3. Scientific Atlanta: 1,664 Headquartered in Lawrenceville, Scientific Atlanta supplies transmission networks for broadband access for homes, set-tops, cable modems and digital interactive subscriber systems for video, high speed Internet and VoIP networks. 4. Emory Eastside Medical Center: 1,500 A 200-bed, acute care medical center in Snellville. 5. Atlanta Journal Constitution: 970 A newspaper with offices and a press facility on Best Friend Road in Norcross. 6. EMS Technologies: 900 Based in Norcross, EMS Technologies designs and manufactures defense electronics, satellite-based broadband communication systems, mobile computers and wireless networking products. 7. Sage Software: 680 Provides business management software and services to small- to medium-sized businesses. 8. Merial: 450 Supplies products that enhance the health and performance of animals. 8. Network Communications: 450 Located in Lawrenceville, NCI publishes print and online magazines for the real estate industry. It distributes more than 13 million magazines each month in 650 markets, according to its Web site. 10. Avon Products Inc.: 426 With a sales and distribution branch in Suwanee, Avon is one of the world's largest suppliers of cosmetics and skin care products. ' Gwinnett County Public Schools remains the county's largest employer with about 22,000 workers, according to Sloan Roach, spokeswoman for GCPS.More like this story
