The Dacula boys cross country team dominated the All-Region 8-AAAA Team, which was released on Monday.
The Falcons placed four boys runners on the first team - Mike McClay, Obed Pacheco, Chris Patterson and Nick Phillips. Teammates David Campbell and Kyle Groover made the second team. Winder-Barrow's Jeremy Smith was a first-team selection and teammate Palmer Hicks made the second team. The girls team featured Winder-Barrow's Bethaney Murphy and Kayla Estes on the first team and the Bulldoggs' Alanna Griffin on the second team. Dacula's Nina Kamber was a second-team selection and teammate Philicia Galaviz made the third team. WRESTLING Parkview wins Southern Slam again GREENVILLE, S.C. - For the second straight year, Parkview won the Southern Slam. The Panthers beat host Eastside (S.C.) 240.5-228.5 for the title on Saturday. Parkview had four tournament champions led by senior Carson Fields (140 pounds), who was also named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. Clint Jones (112), Alex Hillis (130) and Brian Farris (285) were also champions. Kevin McAraw and Josh Davis took third and Kevin O'Conner, Jason Hail and Brent McFall finished in fourth place. Wolves place seven at Southern Slam GREENVILLE, S.C. - Wesleyan had seven wrestlers place at the Southern Slam at Eastside High School (S.C.) on Saturday. Colin Genthert (160 pounds) and Kelby Smith (215) were the Wolves' top finishers by placing third. Michael Douglas (189) took fourth, Josh Leng (125) and Hampton Wilson (152) finished sixth and Tyler Hediger (135) and Kyle Hagenau (171) took seventh. Generals go 5-0 during the weekend The Shiloh wrestling team picked up five wins over the weekend. The Generals defeated Miller Grove 56-21 and North Clayton 66-14 on Friday. At Duluth's Wildcat Duals on Saturday, Shiloh beat the Wildcats 69-12, Berkmar 48-26 and Roswell 51-27. Shiloh had five wrestlers go undefeated, including four posting 5-0 records for the weekend. Jimmy Ho, Lucas Austin, Sam Oloba and Devarious Thomas were all 5-0 and Daniel Helena was 2-0. Eduardo Martinez went 4-1 and Billy Merfert, Ashton Deverna, Justin Wofford, Davis Taylor, Edward Phillips and Brandon Powe all finished 3-2. BOYS BASKETBALL Peachtree Ridge 97, Grayson 78 LOGANVILLE - Peachtree Ridge had five players in doubles figures, led by Cory Powell's 25 points, as the Lions defeated Grayson 97-78 on Saturday. Bryen Pyles had 20 points, Khalid Mutakabbir scored 17, Adrian Hubbard had 16 and Tim Foster added 10 points for the Lions (4-1).
