Cans of food donated to Hebron Baptist Church

DACULA - Hebron Baptist Church's food assistance program received 120 waste carts full of canned food.

The waste carts - which had never before been used - contained about 40,000 cans. The food comes at a time when donations are necessary to provide those in need with food during the cold winter months.

The cans came from Quality Waste Services, the local member of parent company Sanitation Services. The donation was part of a company-wide food drive that collected cans for food assistance services in Gwinnett, Hall, Forsyth, Cherokee, Barrow and Jackson counties, as well as the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

About 80,000 cans of food were donated in full. Quality Waste Services is also organizing a toy drive to support Gwinnett County, to be held Dec. 3 through 22. Call 770-536-7868 or visit www.sanitation-services.com for more information.

Money donated to animal charities

LAWRENCEVILLE - Atlanta Classic Cars donated $31,995 to three different animal charities.

Each charity, including the Society of Humane Friends in Lawrenceville, received $10,665.

The Mercedes dealership used profits from their September sales to donate to the three charities.

Tag office pilots program

NORCROSS - An electronic Citizen Services Administration System is being piloted at the Norcross Tag Office.

Similar to the pilot system in the Lawrenceville Tag Office, the system will reduce wait time in the lobby and electronically direct customers to the tag office agent who can most efficiently perform the motor vehicle transaction.

After selecting a transaction type at a touch-screen terminal, customers are then seated until their ticket number is announced. Standing in a line is not necessary, and tag office agents are available in the lobby to answer questions.

This test program will last for 90 days. Tax Commissioner Katherine Sherrington is asking customers to provide comments regarding the system by completing an online customer survey at www.gwinnetttaxcommissioner.com.

For more information on Tax Commissioner tag and title services and office hours or locations, customers may contact the Tax Commissioner's motor vehicles customer service line at 770-822-8818 or send an e-mail to tag@gwinnettcounty.com.
