Prep Roundup: Lions sweep day for Gold Bracket win

SUWANEE - Peachtree Ridge (7-5) won the Gold Bracket in the American Home Mortgage Tournament on Saturday.

In the first game, Peachtree Ridge beat Tift County 5-1. Emily Osterhaus registered the win and gave up three hits and one run. Gabby Bedard went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Callie Fernandez was 1-for-3 with two runs. Allison Leigh went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Lady Lions beat defending state Class AAAAA champion Woodstock 3-2 in the second game. Krysten Connelly struck out six batters and gave up two runs, five hits and earned the win. Bedard was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Fernandez was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a go-ahead single. Leigh was 1-for-2 with a stolen base for the Lions.

Peachtree Ridge won the third game 2-1 over Norcross. Osterhaus struck out 11 batters and gave up three hits in seven innings to get the win. Fernandez had two hits and two RBIs for Peachtree Ridge.

SOFTBALL

Collins Hill takes second

SUWANEE - Collins Hill (6-1-1) took second in the Diamond division of the American Home Mortgage Tournament on Saturday.

Collins Hill beat Kennesaw 6-1, Grayson 3-2 and Warner Robins 5-0, while losing to Kennesaw Mountain 3-2.

Erin Collins (2-0), Kim Mason (2-0) and Leah Martin (1-0) each recorded a win. Cat Tarbin had five hits, two runs and four RBIs, and Caroline Cooper had five hits, two runs and an RBI for the Eagles.

Karlie Gillam had eight RBIs, four hits and three home runs - including a grand slam against Kennesaw Mountain and a two-run walk-off home run over Grayson. Michelle Johnson had three hits, one run and an RBI, while Nicole Heusel had three hits and a run.

North wins three

SUWANEE - North Gwinnett (6-2-1) won the Silver Bracket of the American Home Mortgage Tournament on Saturday.

In the first game, North beat Brookwood 3-1 with Brittany Broome recording the save.

In the second game, the Bulldogs topped Lowndes 6-0, and in the third game North beat Milton 8-0.

Mary Beth O'Rouke registered two wins while Jenifer Gray got the other.

Emily Whitaker totaled seven hits and four RBIs while Sammie Rao had seven hits for North.

Mill Creek wins two of three

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek (7-2) won the Platinum Bracket in the American Home Mortgage Tournament on Saturday.

Mill Creek beat Harrison 2-1 and South Effingham 3-0 while losing to Hardaway 2-1 in extra innings.

Amberlie Saxton was 5-for-11 with five RBIs, while Alex Rogers went 4-for-6 with two runs and two stolen bases.

Morgan Bullock pitched a total of 13 innings and gave up one earned run, three walks and struck out eight batters.

Lauren Kaczynsai pitched seven innings and gave up one earned run for Mill Creek.

VOLLEYBALL

Wesleyan wins four out of five

ATLANTA - Wesleyan (11-2) won four out of five games on Saturday in the Marist State Finalist Play Date.

Wesleyan fell to Starrs Mill 17-25, 25-21, 23-25. The Lady Wolves topped Blessed Trinity 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, Sequoyah 25-19, 25-23, Lassiter 25-14, 25-22 and Lovett 21-24, 25-21.

On the day, Betsy Smith had 54 kills and 12 digs, while Maggie Smith had 67 assists.

Brooke Atkinson totaled 26 digs, while Haley Collins had eight kills and 21 digs for the Wolves.

CROSS COUNTRY

Crist, Preg shine for Providence

DOUGLASVILLE - Elias Crist was the top boys runner for Providence at the Early Bird Invitational on Saturday at Douglasville Clinton Farms.

Crist came in 53rd overall with a time of 17 minutes, 38 seconds. Teammates Keith Kreutzer and Jonathan Preg followed with times of 18:23 and 18:39.

The Providence girls were led by Allison Preg, who finished in 21:19 for 23rd place. Jordan Kelly and Mary Katherine Mills ran nearly identical times - Kelly with 22:32 and Mills a second behind in 22:33.
