GRAYSON - Election officials for the Nov. 6 city election in Grayson were appointed Monday night by the Grayson City Council at its regular monthly meeting.
Laura Paul-Cone was named election superintendent, absentee ballot administrator and chief voter registrar, while Laurie Anderson was selected as poll manager.
Up for re-election this year are Mayor Jim Hinkle and councilwomen Allison Rooks and Suzanne Hawkins.
Following a public hearing, the Council adopted its 2007-08 fiscal year budget, which totals $1,359,873. Last year's budget was $1,215,851. A public hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 31 to amend the 2007 figures in order to balance the budget.
The 2008 budget includes such expenses as $170,000 for planning and development, $150,000 for sanitation and $88,131 for salaries. Revenues include: $339,273 for property taxes; $135,000 for both sanitation fees/charges and utility fees.
In other business, the Council:
'Agreed to approve the proposal from Southern Landscape Group to replace dead trees and shrubs at City Hall and the Senior Center, and install new trees after Oct. 1, guaranteeing that the trees must live for at least one year.
'Approved the proposal from Wildcat Striping for the placement of 14 stop bars on the street pavement at intersections in the city. The cost is $1,484 for all the bars with the city paying $848 for eight bars and Pinegrove Village Developers paying $636 for six bars.
'Rejected all bids on the city park project. All four bids submitted were higher than the city's $140,000 budget for the project, so the Council decided to reduce the scope of the project and rebid at a later date.
