Prep Roundup: GAC stays unbeaten with tourney sweep

SUWANEE - Greater Atlanta Christian (6-0) won the Diamond Medal bracket in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic on Saturday.

In the first game, GAC beat Eastside 1-0. Jessica Coan registered the win and struck out 12 while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Chaney Means went 1-for-3 and Sarah Armstrong scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Reagan Page.

GAC won the second game 1-0 over Oconee County. Coan gave up two hits and struck out 11. Mollie Mitchell had two hits and an RBI, while Means was 1-for-3 with a run.

The Lady Spartans beat Peachtree Ridge 5-2 in the third game. Coan struck out 11 batters and was the winning pitcher. Mitchell was 2-for-3 with a run and a double, while Alex McDavid was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Page was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI, while Carly Busbee went 1-for-3 with a run and RBI. Katie Petrino was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Lady Spartans.

SOFTBALL

Central wins Bronze Bracket

LAWRENCEVILLE - Central Gwinnett (4-2) won the Bronze Bracket in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic with three wins on Saturday.

Ginny Emery was the winning pitcher for Central after beating Gilmer County 5-4. Cailyn Kaiser registered the win in the second game over Chamblee (6-5), and Jennifer Mathews was the winning pitcher in the third game over Lithonia, which Central won 6-2.

Grayson 10, North Cobb 0

ATLANTA - Grayson topped North Cobb 10-0 in five innings in the Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge at Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Mandie Burns (2-0) struck out ten and walked one, while she went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run. Amanda Hutcheson was 4-for-4 with three runs, a triple and two stolen bases. Hayley Downs was 4-for-4 with three runs, an RBI, a triple and a stolen base. Lauren Mathis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two doubles and a run, while Blake Wilson was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Shannon Bear scored two runs for the Rams, who improved to 2-0.

Providence take fourth in Lake Lanier Invitational

GAINESVILLE - Providence finished Saturday with a 3-2 record to take fourth place in the Lake Lanier Invitational.

Pitcher Brittany Ellington picked up two wins on the mound, beating Gainesville and Commerce, while losingin to Union County. Kylie Kleinschmizt went 1-1 on the day, beating East Hall and losing to White County.

Providence is now 5-2 on the year.

VOLLEYBALL

Wesleyan wins three out of four

CANTON - Wesleyan (5-1) won three out of four games at the Sequoyah tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Wolves topped North Gwinnett 25-10, 25-7, Whitewater 25-16, 25-12 and Sprayberry 25-13, 25-7. Wesleyan fell to Sandy Creek 23-25, 26-28.
