LAWRENCEVILLE - The Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans stormed to two easy wins on Thursday in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic, routing Central Gwinnett 11-0 in five innings and Chamblee 15-0 in four innings.
In the first game, pitcher Jessica Coan struck out 10 Black Knights en route to her second win of the season. Chaney Means and Coan both had three hits for the Spartans, while Alex McDavid had two hits and Mollie Mitchell had a double, a home run and four RBIs.
In the nightcap, Kelsey McDavid struck out eight in four innings of work to pick up the win. Means had three hits and Mitchell, Coan, Madeline Baker and Kamarin Moon had two hits each. Mitchell added three RBIs and Coan had two.
South Gwinnett 16, Lithonia 0
SNELLVILLE - Rachel Ludsick picked up the win on the mound as the South Gwinnett Comets rolled to a 16-0, four-inning win over Lithonia on Thursday in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic.
Ludsick pitched all four innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six.
Hanna Ennis had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored, Jordan Suther added two hits, two runs and an RBI and Megan Truett added a single and a run scored for the Comets, who are now 2-0 on the season.
Peachtree Ridge 5, Heritage 2
SUWANEE - Krysten Connelly allowed just two hits and struck out nine in six innings of work to lead the Peachtree Ridge Lions to a 5-2 win over Heritage on Thursday in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic.
Gabby Bedard was 3-for-3 with a stolen base and Callie Fernandez and Emily Osterhaus each had a hit and an RBI for the Lions, who are now 2-1 on the season.
Norcross 5, Loganville 4
LILBURN - The Norcross Blue Devils picked up their first win of the season with a 5-4 win over Loganville on Thursday at Parkview.
Alexandra Foulke picked up the win on the mound and was also 1-for-3 at the plate. Heidi Shape and Laura Purvis each had one hit and Lauren Kinney had two hits and an RBI for the Blue Devils, who are now 1-2 on the season.
Norcross lost the first game of the day to Parkview 3-1. Purvis had two hits and Kinney, Shape, Foulke and Annie Hicks each had one hit in the loss.
Apalachee 5, Elbert County 1
ELBERTON - Courtney Gunby went all eight innings for Apalachee on Thursday, allowing four hits and striking out four in a 5-1 win over Elbert County in extra innings.
Elissa Greene had the game-tying hit for the Wildcats in the top of the seventh inning and Gunby and Kimmie Bunten each had RBIs in the eighth inning to pick up the region victory. Apalachee is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in 8-AAA.
North rolls to two wins
GAINESVILLE - The North Gwinnett Bulldogs improved to 4-0 on the young season with wins over Habersham Central and Johnson-Gainesville on Thursday.
The Bulldogs defeated Habersham 25-7, 18-25, 25-22 in the first match and then swept past Johnson 25-11, 25-23. Danielle Sphire had eight kills on the day, Meagan Booth had seven and Megan Carnell had 19 assists, seven aces and five kills.
Central splits with Holy Innocents' and Chapel Hill
ATLANTA - The Central Gwinnett Black Knights dropped two straight games to Holy Innocents', but bounced back to defeat Chapel Hill on Thursday in a tri-match at Holy Innocents'. Central defeated Chapel Hill by scores of 26-24 and 25-20.
Brookwood beats Mill Creek, Collins Hill
HOSCHTON - Brookwood defeated Mill Creek in three sets and then downed Collins Hill in two Thursday.
The Broncos lost the first set to Mill Creek 25-22, but then won the next two 25-19, 25-15 to take the win. Brookwood then defeated Collins Hill 25-20, 25-16.
Anna Gouge had eight kills and eight digs for the Broncos, Brandi Byers added six kills and three blocks and Abby Case finished with 21 assists for the Broncos, who are now 3-1 on the season.
Against Collins Hill, Mill Creek cruised to a 25-20, 25-15 victory. Olivia Day had 10 kills and nine digs and Taylor Alkire had 18 assists and five aces on the day for the Hawks, who are now 1-1 on the season.
GAC sweeps Pace Academy, Riverwood
ATLANTA - Amanda Komisarow had 23 kills and 14 digs to lead the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans to wins over Pace Academy (25-19, 25-15) and Riverwood (25-23, 25-12) on Thursday.
Anjelica Wilcox added 11 digs, nine kills and three blocks, Megan Rosburg had eight kills, Alex Shelton added 45 assists and seven aces and Sam Vining finished with four blocks for the Spartans, who are now 4-0 on the season.
Hebron splits with Pickens County and Duluth
DACULA - Hebron defeated Pickens County on Thursday night before falling to Duluth in the nightcap.
The Lions won their first match of the season with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-20 win over Pickens County and then followed that up with a 17-25, 21-25 loss to Duluth.
