Man takes jewelry from pawn shop
LAWRENCEVILLE - A pawn shop employee was swindled out of some expensive jewelry Saturday, a police report said.
A man stole the jewelry after first calling the Americash Pawn and Jewelry on Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville inquiring about the item, the report said.
A store employee said the man wanted to have the jewelry appraised before purchasing the item. The employee agreed to go with the man to have the jewelry looked at but the man pulled a gun and fled with the piece valued at nearly $40,000.
The man was described as black with two gold front teeth.
Employee scares possible robber
NORCROSS - A hotel employee was able to scare off a potential thief Tuesday.
According to a police report, a masked man entered the Comfort Inn at 5200 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. shortly after 5 p.m. armed with a kitchen knife and demanding money.
The employee said the man left the hotel after she told him she had pushed an alarm button.
Police chase, tackle driver
AUBURN - A 50-year-old Flowery Branch man faces numerous charges after leading Auburn police on a chase.
An Auburn police officer spotted a Chevrolet with a suspicious looking drive-out tag Wednesday night. The driver, John Wyndell Hughes, sped off, police reports state. Hughes allegedly drove to the Auburn Express, jumped the curb, and did doughnuts in the parking lot, according to police reports.
Hughes at one point allegedly tried to use the vehicle to ram a police car head-on, reports state. The chase ended on Parks Mill Road, when Hughes left his vehicle and took off running through a pasture with two Auburn police officers in pursuit, reports state. Once Hughes got into the woods, officers tackled and handcuffed him.
Hughes was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence of drugs and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He remains in the Barrow County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
