DULUTH - Investigators named the lone victim in the most recent Duluth-area shooting Tuesday, though other details surrounding the Sunday night killing remain unclear.
Police identified the male victim as Bani Smith, 26, of Duluth, who they believe was shot about 10:30 p.m. at the Charleston at Sweetwater apartments. Smith's girlfriend called 911 to the apartment complex, located at 2906 Old Norcross Road, to report the shooting, police said Monday. Circumstances surrounding the killing are unknown as police continue to investigate. Detectives have no suspects. "There are no other updates (than the victim's name) at this time," said Gwinnett Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. The shooting marks the third violent death in Duluth in the last two weeks. Duluth police are investigating a double homicide that occurred sometime on July 31 in another Duluth apartment complex. The victims, Valente Carbajal-Otero, 29, and Erik Eliezer Vallecillo-Matute, 28, were found at 2836 Northwoods Lake Court. Police said Vallecillo-Matute lived in Norcross and was visiting the ordinarily quiet Promenade at Berkeley Apartments off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. The men were shot by at least one other person, Duluth police said.More like this story
